Imagery, how the mind works

When James told us to write using imagery I felt like a lost kid in a grocery store. Is this a business class or English class? I thought I was done with writing courses but I was mistaken. For me being taught what style to write in is like being forced to eat my least favourite food.  I thought to myself what is imagery, how can I paint a picture in someone’s head, I may have never met. Then I remember I lived in Winnipeg and imagery is describing every detail, so the reader has no choice but to relate and see the picture you painted.

The only thing I could think about was how cold it was outside. You start your car and see that dreaded thin layer of ice covering the windshield. Your breath turns white on every exhale as it meets the crisp air.  Being a Winnipeger you didn’t wear gloves because its only -20 today, a mild winter day. You begin to use your ice scraper peeling the ice off your windshield. The sound it makes is nothing short of torture.Your teeth beg for it to stop while a shiver goes down your neck and stops when it reaches your toes.  When the ice is finally off your windshield the two ice blocks that many other part of the world call hands are tasked with trying to steer your arctic ship to your destination. All that for the process to repeat itself the next day.
